Cancellation of VIP wards? I'm just stating a fact.

A proposal to cancel VIP wards has sparked heated discussions online. So, let me start with a fact. Then we can discuss its feasibility.
A colleague's father passed away in January 2023 at the age of 91. His death was not due to COVID-19 but rather because his organs had ceased to function.
He stayed in a VIP ICU ward for nearly four years, and from the moment he entered the ICU, he could only move his eyes. He couldn't communicate with his family, and they didn't need to visit him frequently because the hospital would provide regular updates.
In such wards, there is no need for caregivers for elderly patients. In fact, caregivers wouldn't be able to do much in such situations. The rotation mainly consists of specialized doctors and nurses attending to the patient.
Regarding the cost, according to my colleague, the ICU expenses for a single day were close to 10,000 yuan. The retired pension of the elderly man was around 30,000 yuan per month. Over the course of four years, the expenses amounted to over 10 million yuan.
